LA Galaxy vs Chelsea: Jose - We Won’t Kick Beckham!

Last match of the US tour today or tomorrow depending on where you are. David Beckham may not play and I don’t think his participation is really going to matter for the Chelsea fans. I’d still get up early in the morning to tune into Chelsea TV to watch us win the match. No, I’m not calling this a trophy or cup or whatever.

Jose Mourinho just broke my heart:

We are going to play 4-4-2, a new experience for the players. I look forward to the game to see how they react on the pitch. We want high intensity. It’s a reason why I’m not playing players for 90 minutes, I know if they do they are not ready to play high intensity. I think they care about themselves, about their position in the team. Every minute of every friendly game is important for me to make a judgment. They know the competition in the team is hard because the squad is good.

While we are gearing up for 4-3-3 on and off the pitch, suddenly boss wants to play 4-4-2. We know that he is not going to play 20 - 22 players this match. He is going to make only 3 or 4 substitutions and see this match to be played just like any competitive match. Bad news for Malouda unless Jose means 4-1-3-2 where the side midfielders are more wide forwards.

Like many of us, I expect Joe Cole to play an important role this season. Be it 4-4-2 or 4-3-3, he’s going to find his name on the teamsheet. I hope he plays for all 90 minutes and show us the magic he is always capable of.

He also gave us some good news on recovering injuries:

He’s [Ashley Cole] coming, he’s in the last phase of his recovery period. Ballack is the same, he will train with the group on Monday. He [Terry] has a problem in his toe but he can play. I think playing on Saturday and resting Sunday and Monday is fine, and Robben has something in his knee. We have to protect him because he had surgery last season.

Did you notice that he talks about Robben as if he has signed a new contract with Chelsea. That’s the message he wants to send out, may be. Robben is a Chelsea player and we treat him so.

And then, the final Jose special to make the day for the journalists:

. . we would like David Beckham to play and play well. We would like to help him on that. If we can make a deal with him, we’ll give him freedom to play, but he cannot hurt us. If he is on for 10 minutes and we are winning the trophy, then we will let him play for free and will make a free-kick for him to score.

LA Galaxy must have already made up their mind in not playing Beckham but publicising it would not help their advertisements and campaigns for the match that shows the ex-captain and current captain of England pitted against each other.

I think we should see the best game of the US tour against LA Galaxy. Not only because the opposition is good, but also because the players should be much more improved and sharp than they were for the Club America game. The starting eleven could be: Cech, Glen, Terry, Carvalho, Cork, Essien, Mikel, Joe Cole, Lampard, Sheva and Drogba. The subs could be Carlo, Tal, Malouda, Kalou, Sidwell.

That’s it for now. Catch you tomorrow tomorrow!

I think we’re playing a flat 442, not a diamond, meaning the wingers will still be implemented.

We have to rival United in attacking power this season and therefore it seems we’re going to attempt to copy their format.

I think our starting line-up will be something along the lines of:

Cech

Johnson
Carvalho
Terry
Hutchinson

J. Cole/SWP
Essien
Lampard
Robben/Malouda

Drogba
Shevchenko

i’ve been saying it since I head the comments about essien, and the warning to Ballack.
We will be playing a regular 4-4-2 and we will EXPLODE!!!

I agree with the 4-4-2 with wingers. For some reasons I always feel the 4-3-3 will not make the most use of Drogba’s ability. I am not sure about hutchinson starting tho. I think Tal will do so. If not then Ferreira will be played there. I will on the evidence of pre season form start with SWP on the right side of midfield and let Joe Cole start on the bench. Malouda will definitely start.

I hope Jose’s message that there will be competition all over the pitch applies to all. If bit does as JT claims, then eventually Lampard would be made to sit out for Ballacks not too long. If I had my way though, my two central midfielders will be Mikel and Essien.

But I can’t wait to see Pizarro and Alex join the squad.

“Not only because the opposition is good…”

Actually, LA Galaxy is one of the worst teams in the MLS presently.

actually…..i took the ” spl1 mentioning robben ” a diff way
i haf been followin this robben saga for quite a few dayzzzz…
what occured to me first was …
robben’s rumoured to haf left the pre season and gone off
to madrid….but…..some critics also had an opinion that
if robben plays the L.A game then …….
a deal is not in place …..but on the hind side if he doesn’t then
we sure haf something to worry……
…yeah joe cole’s goin to be a trump card…if he avoid ne serious injuries like past seasons….
i sure want sheva to sparkle and also……the young players
like sinclair………
its really good that we had given him a first team place…….
lets look forward to a big night….at the expense of los angeles galaxy….

AllesLesBlues: I know that they are playing poorly but we are not playing champions league final against them, are we? For a friendly match, they are a good opposition. You know Arsenal played against Genclerbirligi. You’ve heard of this team?

half time now. Chelsea looking very sharp with Malouda, Kalou, Essien and Ben haim particularly being very impressive. Galaxy are playing the game of their lives and showing a very good fighting spirit.

I think that Robben should definetly have started the galaxy game. If mourinho wants him to stay then he should let him start and impress. I know that Robben being a dutchman like my self would’ve been livid if he hadnt been brought on soon in the game. It is true that Robben has had surgery last season and therfore should be nurtured back to healthbut who was the one person who brought that tiny bit of flair into the FA cup final and took the piss out of the MU defenders. That would be robben and i know that malouda has a good shot and is awesome at set plays (and i think he would be better off on the left playing robben up front on the left side) but robben isn’t bad. I think that robben has the pace and skill that malouda doesnt have and i think a 4-3-3 with Cech,Ben Haim at left back, Terry, Carvalho, Ferreira at the back. Malouda on the left and Essien in the centre with Joey on the right. Up front I would play from left to right : Robben,Drogba,Kalou. I think that with say Cole at left back would be amazing.
