Chelsea sign Claudio Pizarro!!!
Surprise! Chelsea sign Claudio Pizarro from Bayern. For those who dont know him, here are some key stats – 28 years, 6″1′ and an out-and-out striker. He is tall, strong, both feet and has a good header. He has the sharpness and guile required for a poacher, which he is. You’d surely respect him if you know that he has scored more than 100 bundesliga goals. And he cost us as much as Sidwell did. Yes, it was a free transfer!
Now, is this a smart move by Chelsea? I’d think so. This Peruvian can be a better back-up striker for Drogba and Sheva, than Kalou. I’m able to see Kalou only as a winger than a striker. Whereas Pizarro is a good striker, a big match player and he is available for free (well . . we will pay him a handsome salary though). At first sight of this news, what struck me more than anything is the age of the player – 28. Do we need another striker in the late 20s? Why not? We have Drogba, Sheva and Pizarro in the late 20s. And we do have Kalou, Sinclair and Sahar in the late teens. May be Pizarro can team up with one of the young boys in the domestic cup competitions.
The other free transfer from Bayern, Michael Ballack should be a happy man to see his ex-team mate land up in Chelsea. I’m hoping that Ballack is going to make a real big impression in the next season and in-form Ballack should be of great help to Pizarro.

With the signings of Sidwell and Pizarro, I see a pattern. Forget spending big money, we are not spending money at all in the acquisition of these players. Both can be good back-up players and both can be very useful in the domestic competitions and there is also this small matter of African Cup in Jan 2008, where Boss is trying to minimize the damage.
Jose had said that we will buy a forward, midfielder and defender. Roman has not ruled out more spending, contrary to public belief. Something tells me that we could sign two defenders and not one – may be one world class defender and one good enough defender. It’s up to you, in which category you want to Alex into.
Wait a minute! I almost forgot. With Pizarro coming in, Khalid’s booking a flight back to Germany. I don’t think you’re gonna be too worried!

This is a realy good signing because it provides back-up to drogba j.cole and robben when we play the 4-3-3 and is a great finisher so expect him to make 5-15 starts this season!
I’m worried about Tevez now… If he goes to another team of the big four he’s going to be a big boost for them. Nothing Terry and Carvalho can’t take care of, but I’d rather him be in Blue. Also, I’d love to see us sign Manuel Da Costa as well as Alex. Both of them are terrific prospects, with Alex being a lot more known. But every time I’ve seen Da Costa play, I’ve been thoroughly impressed.
I am very positive about Pizarro. specially when I found out he came to chelsea free. he is good. he does not expect his manager to play him every game which is so important to Mourinho. He can be effective as a sub player.
I think he will play very well next season . this transfer puts pressure on Sheva. I don’t know if this pressure is good or not.
ADONIS: Tevez is not God, there are so many good players whom chelsea players were successfull in controling such as Ronaldinho,Rooney,Villa and etto’o. I am not worried about him, I prefer to think about my players insted of being concern about other players. to me Tevez is not dangerouse as long as he does not play for chelsea.
Maysam, well said. Tevez is a superb striker but he is not unstoppable. Of course he would be nice to have but one can hardly complain when Sidwell and Pizarro join the queue free of charge.
Guys, it may be that Chelsea is not that active this time
in bringing in big expensive signings but going by the
news/rumours I see Chelsea bringing in many so called
‘superkids’….I see lots of future planning going on at
administrative levels….
Guys I’m very possitive about Pizzaro he can help us a lot but I think that we need one more striker because in March I think I don’t remember exacly it wiil begin Africa Cup so we will lose for a long time Drogba and Kalou as Mikel,Essien and Geremi. So if Sheva leaves of course we one more striker because this period is the end of the season and we will play the most important maches!!!
So do you agree with me..?
no worries mates. african cup is only for a month (jan 08) and sheva wont leave. one more defender and we are stronger than ever. KTBFFH.
I realize WE can control Tevez, Maysam… It’s not a matter of him playing against Chelsea, it’s a matter of him playing against the other 18 teams in the Premiership. He gets his team many points.
Adonis ,
you are right, but don’t forget when he gets his team many point, other teams which are chelsea rivals are losing points too. ;) so that’s fine.
We may be overrating Tevez a bit here. In the Times article referenced above Tevez only gets a 2.85. While the merits of the system can be debated it is clear that Tevez is not on an equal plane with some of the brilliant strikers of the EPL, say Drogba.
Well let’s not forget, bluewinner, that he was in a slump for more than half of the season. His heroics are relatively recent, and his magical play is very recent. If he continues on the same level as the last 8, 10 games of this year through next season, he would be one of the top strikers, and very capable of grabbing the Golden Boot.
Adonis,
Tevez is not that big.
there are so many ‘if’ in football world.
if sheva playes like when he was in Milan .
if Ashly plays like when he was in arsenal,
if Ballack plays like when he was in germany.
if Robben doesn’t get injured.
if Drogba continues his good performance.
who wants to stop this team , Tevez?
dont care we can win wid out new plaers
There something I don’t like about this small article, that you assume Claudio will ride the bench, don’t be surprised if Didier or Sheva watch Claudio start more games than they thought he would. I also think Chelsea should jump on the “Juan Roman Riquelme” situation, Villarreal doesn’t want him back (problems with the coach) and he is about to win with Boca Jrs. (tomorrow Wednesday) the Copa Libertadores (South American Champions League). He will be going back to Europe soon but does not know to which team yet.
This is a pretty good signing by JM because DROGBA and KALOU are going to be unavailable bcos of national assignment.
Good signing. A bit conncerned about the Torres signing though. i think liverpool have the right mix now to challenge the EPL title.
i think it will be a good think for michael ballack maybe with a old collige he will come out of his shell and start to play the way we see him play for germany. My only concern is if he turns out to be like shevchenko struggleing to find form but if both score goals with drogba we are on our way to being champions again !!!
Have any of you seen theCopa America thing. When Pizarro played with peru?? Honestly, he wasn’t playing at his best. I was so pissed cause he didn’t play all that great cause i think the only one who played was umm Paolo Guerrero. Ah well. I sure do hope he actually does something for a change. I don’t really care though. I pretty much love the guy.
Two headers v Bolivia (one offside). He was magic against the arse in Europe a couple of seasons ago.
Didn’t cost us a penny and on 50 grand. If he flops I really don’t think it will matter all that much in that respect. @x333 Guerrero looks pretty good,
But pizarro will get us goals hopefully in the way Crespo did – without depending on his pace (the way Sheva doesa lot of the time).
As long as he doesn’t mind getting kicked about a bit, he’ll be fine.
KTBFFH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
Hi!
My name is Tomas!
I Think pizarro wil be the future of CHELSEA fc..
he is a brilliant Player.
he will be the chelsea number on PLayer after FRANK LAMPARD i think
bye bye
go go pizarro
go pizarro
show of the world that you will be the best player
Well I’m from Peru and I think that Pizarro needs people’ help..chelsea fans don’t have to bother him..he have pression when he plays..c’mon! stop bothering him. He will play very well if people let him play without bother
