Could this be the defining day of Chelsea’s title defence? Anything can happen on this Saturday when Chelea is hosting Bolton and Man Utd travel to Goodison Park. On one side it appears that we are destined to cut the gap tomorrow, with injuries in Bolton and Man Utd, Everton is top form and we play at home and Man Utd play away. On the other side, it could be a tough task with fatigue really catching up and some of our top players badly needing some rest. Out of the 4 matches left to be played, Chelsea plays 3 at home and Man Utd play 3 away from home. So, this Saturday may still not be a ‘nail in the coffin’ types, for Chelsea.

We are still missing Ballack but he might be ready for Anfield. If I had Robben’s phone number, I’d have called him myself. There are so many varied reports about his current state of fitness and his return but surely he is available for this match. If I see Drogba or Lampard on the teamsheet, I’m gonna scream! Let’s get real. We can beat this Bolton team at the Bridge without Lampard and Drogba. We have the most enviable midfield in the Premiership and one of the finest in Europe. If there is no Ballack or Lampard, we still have Maka, Essien, Mikel and possibly even SWP and Joe Cole. While I’d surely rest Lampard, I might even consider resting Mikel and play him in the second half if required.

Drogba has become a very integral part of not only the team this season but also our success which makes it sometimes impossible to think about his absence. Why I would rest Drogba is (i) c’mon, he needs rest before he collapses on the field (ii) we can beat this Bolton team without him (iii) I’d like to see Sheva playing as the lone striker. Who knows, it could be Sheva’s day. That’s what you’d say if you come to know that newspapers have started issuing apologies to Sheva.
Bolton could be missing about half a dozen first teamers – Diouf, Ben Haim, Faye are out of selection while Nolan, Hunt and Stelios are doubtful. I respect Bolton for what they have done and what they could do. Players missing or not, they would give us a good fight. They play a very physical game and are dangerous set pieces. And that’s why I dont think Jose would considering resting the central defenders. I’d preserve Ashley Cole and Diarra for the Anfield game.

Tomorrow, Chelsea and Man Utd kick off at the same time, which makes things a little more interesting, managers checking the score of their rivals etc. If we seem to finish the match in the first half by any chance, I might even be tempted to watch the other match, praying for an Everton win. Something tells me that it could be a 2-1 win for Everton while ours could be a 2-0.
