Tottenham vs Chelsea: FA Quarterfinal Replay: One hand on the trophy?
Three Point Lane. That’s what they call Tottenham’s home. It’s not quite our story yet this season. They’ve beat us at their home and nearly eliminated us at the Bridge. With some second half heroics, Chelsea got themselves a lifeline in the FA Cup. To go to Spurs and beat them there in their current form is quite a task. They have been on fire the last few weeks. Berbatov, Lennon, Keane - all their key players are on song. Robinson scoring a goal against Watford is a good sample of how their football has been doing.
What goes up must come down. Robinson conceded one of the most bizarre goals against Croatia few months back and he must have felt so embarrassed for it. And now, he’s fecking got a goal for himself! He should have tried such a thing against Chelsea in the FA Cup match at the Bridge. With the kind of form our defence was in, he could have got an illustrious one against Chelsea. But, Cech is a millon times better than Ben Foster.
Whereas we have been little rusty, low-tempo and we win with lesser margin with not-so-impressive goals, all this helping us a long unbeaten streak since that fateful Liverpool loss at Anfield. Meanwhile, we’ve got back Terry, Boulahrouz and Ashley Cole. We’ve lost Essien for few days and still waiting for Joe Cole. Mikel would be serving his last of the four match ban. With most of the first team players available for selection, I still see Jose going for a conservative 4-4-2 with both Drogba and Sheva. In the match against Sheff Utd, when we played 4-3-3, you could see the real Chelsea power thanks to the pace and width provided by the wingers. I dont think Jose would go for a 4-3-3 especially Sheva scoring that brilliant goal and also playing impressively for the 60 mins against Sheff Utd. Also, I dont see him playing Sheva as the lone striker when Drogba is available.
In the absence of Essien and Mikel, there is not so much contest in the midfield - it would be Maka, Lampard, Ballack and Robben. The key decision will have to be taken in the selection of defenders. Khalid had a good match against Sheff Utd and he is a specialist defender. Diarra is available too and he certainly has more pace and aggression than Khalid. Whether to choose Khalid or Diarra for the right back would depend on Jose’s strategy for the match. He can keep Khalid at right back and bring on Diarra for Maka in the second half. Or pick Diarra to start and bring on Khalid, if we have operate with only three at the back. I’d prefer Diarra to start along with Terry, Carvalho and Cole.
Martin Jol rested Berbatov, Keane, Lennon and Zokora and still his team won 3-1 against Watford. In the last 8 matches in all competitons, they have scored a whopping 23 goals. Surely, not the best time to play Spurs at White Hart Lane. Against Chelsea, they scored three but those were some of the real horror stories of defending in this season’s premiership. Even if Chelsea’s defence has a decent day, we’ll be through. Spurs at the Bridge looked more threatening because we had conceded early goals and we had to chase the scorea at any cost. In the process, they could weave attack and attack and looked very dangerous. On monday, if we score the first goal, we’ll cruise our way through to the semi-finals.
Man Utd take on Boro at the Old Trafford. I dont want to predict or hope Boro to upset, because I’ll have to then see Man Utd demolish them by half a dozen goals or something. Ronaldo is now playing his best football, since he started playing for Sir Alex. Why doesnt he go to Real Madrid? They want him so badly there. Wherever he is, at the current pace, in just a year or two, he would take over the ‘best player’ tag from Ronaldinho. Couple of years back, you had to say Cristiano Ronaldo to avoid confusion involving Luiz Ronaldo but now Ronaldo refers only to Cristiano!
FA Cup is the only trophy Jose has not won in his career. He won all possible titles and cups in Portugal including Champions League. In England, he has won the community shield, Carling Cup and the Premiership but not yet the FA Cup. So, he would be very eager to get the missing piece in is trophy cabinet. This match against Tottenham would be very crucial for our ultimate success in FA Cup. I have a feeling that if we cross this hurdle of Tottenham, the semi-finals against Blackburn or the possible final against Man Utd would all be more winnable than this match. In that manner, I see this match as the FA Cup final for us.
My prediction is 2-1 for Chelsea.

I really like the polls idea.
As for the match, I certainly hope we get the first goal, otherwise we’re going to have a replay of last match, except it’s not at the Bridge.

Last time around at the Bridge the defence was very shaky with JT and Maka back and Boularouz as back up it’s not gonna be as rollercoaster as last time .
So It’s our much better defence against their quite good front-line.
And our mostly-slow-starting attack against their not-so-good- back-line .
So I guess it boils down to JM’s tactical wits to get us htrough this one .
I also think that Ashley Cole gotta cover that flank much better than last time . But this time there’s Maka to break up the Spurs attacks.
BC do u think Essien would be available tomorrow ?

Yo that was me up there.
And I gotta say I’m waiting for us to meet manure in both the finals of the FA and Champions league .We’ll show them a thing or two. Beat the dickens outta them.
Will be doing some black magic voodoo stuff on shitbagcronaldo.
Anyway I think Berbatov is lots more handsomer than shitbagcronaldo but our Drogs is miles above them in the looks department.
I shall be writing a piece about manure ( gracious and ungracious comments included with minimum political correctness )later on but even if they manage to pip us to the title , We’re gonna get it for the next two years running at least and then I hope liverpool gets it a year, and we get it another two times , then maybe the gooners for a year and especially if the quiroz guys becomes manager. JM could beat him any day.

Thanks a zillion for the effort, BC!
I really like the current layout & design now. Like you’ve commented earlier, it’s a struck of perfection between the original design & the transition design we had earlier. I simply love it *smiles* There’s ease in navigation as well as the ‘all times well-accepted favourite’ photos & videos, the wonderful polls, etc.
Cheers
Christabel

Hey BC there is some problem with this poll in the post when i polled the page enlarged till the end and a lot of space was left blank between the post and the poll , check it out!!!!
7. trueblue
poll works fine for me. which browser do you use? does it have java components installed?
true blue is right. In order to have the opinion polls and videos work satisfactorily, yYou gotta have shockwave plugins installed in your browsers. If you have the latest version of the browsers, this will all be built-in, otherwise, you have to download those small plugins (hardly 100kb) and install them. The whole process might take a few minutes only.

good. the website has got a nice look n feel. i vote for this theme. i thought mikel’s suspension is over and he is available for the spurs match. are you sure he is still under suspension. i dont he would start anyway even if he is available. JM would put money only on lampard, ballack, maka and robben. only if any of them are not available due to injury, suspension or fatigue, people like mikel will be given a chance. and yes, even i feel swp should go. no arguments. he should go otherwise we should send him off.
10. samba
the match would not be decided in fulltime and it would even go to penalties and in any case, we will beat tottspurs.
11. blue champion
Apologies guys. Apparently that was an oversight from my side. Mikel is available for this match. As someone who is being impressed by Mikel in every match, I’m very happy that he would be available for this big match. C’mon blues! Let’s kick the Spurs out of the FA Cup!
12. blue champion
In fact, there is a slight chance that even Essien might be ready just at the right moment.

Everton beats Arsenal with a stoppage time goal. Yippppeeeee! I’m loving it! Everton should have got a penalty when Jens ‘The Rogue’ Lehmann attacked AJ. But, for the millionth time, Arsenil concedes a goal from a set-piece, corner in particular. So the Spurs fans should be happy too. They can’t have it all. So, we’ll beat them tomorrow and make it a consolation for the goner fans!
14. winger
BC, apart from supporting chelsea, the other thing we both have in common is hating arsenal. i go ecstatic when they lose or draw. i was jumping all over after aj scored. i hope they lose all the remaining matches and get to a 5th spot or 6th spot.
15. joop21
the risk with diarra is that he plays like a classic wing back. he goes forward at every possible chance. when we are playing spurs who have very fast wing attackers, our full backs will have to play a more defensive role. i’d put boulahrouz in the right back and play diarra only if we are trying to equalise.
16. Adonis
joop21 brings a great point out. I want JM to play the Cannibal.
Having Robben and Cole on the same side makes us extremely dangerous on the left and not so much(attackingly) on the right. That’s why we need Joe Cole back so badly, he makes us dangerous from everywhere. I loved the energy from the Sheffield game.
Sheva’s coming good.
I say if we have either Drogba or Sheva have a good game, we’re gonna win.

This is superb BC!
Ur blog’s perfect! 10/10 OK! well done ^_^
ummm.. =_=; I dont think u need anymore changes…
at least… dun change Blue to Pink again! lol..
18. RomanHoliday
The blog design is great.
I believe that today we will win against spurs. We will take them by the scruff and whack their backsides. They are no more than pretenders.
It’s good that they have to concentrate on attacking us cos that’s the only way they can stay in the game. We got big game players and there will certainly be no repeat of the defensive shakiness like in the last game.
When we’re solid / strong and full strength at the back even Barca can’t get thru, let alone spurs. And also with the incomparable Peter Cech btw the sticks, no goals for spurs. So it’s up to the frontline to score …… ! GO BLUES !
19. varun
the lampard and terry contract situation is really gettin me uneasy..though theve stressed that they want to stay.i want chelsea to get it over with asap…we really cant postpone this i think…nyway..chelsea to win 2-0 tday for me..with robben an lampard/sheva scorin..wud like to c terry get on the scoresheet..hes not scored since opening day..thats a bit unusual..all the best..go chelsea
20. blue champion
Thanks a lot guys! I was counting on you guys to like this design because I’ve fallen in love with this theme and its current look.
Varun - Dont let these get on your nerves buddy. The players agents’ job is to negotiate and get the best deal/package for the players. Terry and Lampard will stay, absolutely no doubt about that, that is, if they see Jose staying for the long term. There is this wonderful bonding between Jose and the players that makes them impossible to play under any other manager. All will stay and we will keep winning. Enjoy the football!

Commenter #17 - Thanks for your feedback. I wont change the color back to pink lol. It was earlier there because it was in the original settings of the theme. It’s obvious that I love blue over pink anyday! By the way, please type in your name. Let’s not be ANONYMOUS please.
22. Alex
Joop21 is right. With Diarra as the right back, we tend to leave more space on the flanks for the spurs quickies to run through. If Mikel is available, he should get the nod ahead of Maka.
Did you notice that Lampard and Ballack played superbly when each other were absent on the field. Does that tell you anything?
23. joeblue
For me the mid-field gets too congested for both Ballack and Lampard , and this has been our weakness ,2 slow midfielders clogging the middle of the park hampers our game speed!!!!
But i doubt JM wld change that , he is too proud to admit he made a mistake to sign Ballack but he has always had a weak eye in the Transfer Market like i hav always stressed!!!!
The danger men will be Dimitar and Lennon , Cole will hav to be at his best and Terry on Berbetov , stupid strategy this by whoever suggested it , i.e to play Boula at RB , Keano exposed him right , left and center remember , no need for a flashback , Diarra shld be put in with Cole being defensive so as to counter Lennon!!!!
24. giridhar
With Jenas back Spurs may include him and along with Lennon and Berbatov… I think they are really a good attacking side… They have been scoring at will but have been conceding too… so chelsea need to look there.. I hope Robben does his bit rather than go down and loose the ball so easily that he has been doing for past couple of matches.. I think Mikel will be playing and not Diarra..
25. Adonis
Joeblue you have a good point in that we’re a bit slow, but it’s not as big of a problem as you’re saying it is. Ballack losing the ball is, however. If he takes care of the ball more and doesn’t lose it, it’ll be fine that we have two slow midfielders, as we have high energy players in the other two spots, with Robben, Essien, Mikel, and Joe Cole soon making a proper balance. I still trust JM’s judgement, I think the Ballack-Lampard link will keep improving. I doubt you can really judge it until the end of the year or even the early parts of next season.
Today, I expect a fighting Spurs side to go down fighting, 2-3.
Go Blue!
26. Richard
BC mikel IS available

Yes, Richard.. Thanks. My realisation in comment#11.

One of the problems , the way I see it , with playing Lamps and Ballack togther is that Essien’s gotta be up there with them too.Not at centre back like he’s been for the most of the season. With a thicket of games and player rotation coming up ,we’ll have to see what combination JM comes up with. But as JM’s done superbly with only one centre back for most of the season, I don’t think the Lamps Ballack combo will too much on his mind. I think he’ll be concentrating more on the ” Who’s gonna score when where how ” Question.
I’m no tactician but how about playing Ballack up front with Drogs ?
A question for all u guys. Do u think the owner will turn up for the game tonite or games in the future with his new amour ( s) ?
BC why don’t we have polls like that on the blog ?
U never know how much influence she will have over team selection and player purchase very soon so we gotta keep an eye on her ( or them ) too. I guess she’s gonna be more influential than a Henry- Saha-Drogba-Sheva front-line.
29. RomanHoliday
And How about pics of pretty ladies in CFC kits in the blog BC ?
30. abdullah
we should kill spurs 2night and give them a lil payback for the defeat they inflicted on us. No doubt they are on an amazing run of great form but chelsea can definetely cope with them. I think our strongest characteristic at the moment is our defence and goalie. We have not conceded many goals with our full back line playing. Anyways I think this is is a must win match and if we do win then it is most likely we meet man u in the final. Also there is a possibility if we overcome valencia and man u overcome roma we coupls potentially play them in the final. So this year it is a very tight competition between Chelsea and Manchetser in all competetions, so its up to us to show them whos the boss of Englsih football
Great Blog BC keep it up
31. Alex
we will show tonight that we are the boss of english football. joeblue - i still think its a brilliant idea to send khalid instead of diarra. dont be stupid. if you send diarra and if diarra is going go till the attacking corner in attacks, then the spurs wingers will screw from the sides. khalid please. diarra may be in the second half.

Guys! The polls are back. All the while the polls were on the side bar only. Now I’ll include polls inside the posts too, like the one in this post on the result of the match. Hope you welcome this idea!
