Fantastic win, even though it was only over Sheffield Utd. Sheffield at home was never going to be a taxing game, but we played as a team and there was some co-ordination and purpose in the attacks. We could keep the gap only at six points as Man Utd completely thrashed Bolton at the Old Trafford. Full credit to Man Utd for the way they play and not letting any pressure affect their game or results.

Early in the game, Ricardo stole the ball in a flash and found Shevchenko near box and lobbed the ball to him with some precision. Shevchenko found that bit time and space that he has been longing for since he landed in England and sent a powerful left footer to the top right corner of the net. He had a very good game. He could do a lot of tricks and turns that he is known of, and looked like scoring more. We were very dangerous in the first half and it was very clear that the next goal could arrive any minute.

SWP crossed from the right only to clip past Sheva and Kalou was there to take the simplest of finishes. Kalou has been scoring quite consistently for us. Whether he has a decent game or not but he seems to have this knack of getting the goals. SWP again was involved in the third goal. He took a beautiful free kick, which was majestically headed home by Ballack. It’s interesting to note that even in the reverse fixture against Sheffield, Ballack had scored a header. Despite his involvement in two goals today, I was completely gutted with SWP. How many more million times would he lose possession near the box, when he has easier options around him? Joe Cole, please come back atleast to see the back of SWP.

Jose feels the same way as I do about this team now:

We played well, we started well and scored two goals so after 20 minutes the game is under control. They had a little spell before half-time but we were in control and played well in the second half. When we have our best players back we are a good team and it is no surprise to me that we have won six games in a row.

Also Jose said Sheva, in the next season, would do better than Drogba in this season (or atleast thats how I interpret this):

Andriy’s scoring goals, not an amazing number of goals but he’s scoring. He has got two goals in the Champions league, half a dozen in the Premiership and two or three more in the cups. It is a natural evolution of a striker coming from many years playing different football. I think he will be the same as Didier Drogba in that respect. Didier did better in his second season and he’s doing better than last season.

Andriy will do even better next season. He is improving. He is a happy boy and he is adapting to the demands of English football. The best is still to arrive and I think he thinks that as well. English football is completely different and I think it is very difficult for a player to adapt and it is even more difficult for a striker. He’s scoring a good number of goals for his first season and he’s playing much better in relation to the team idea.

Overall, we completely dominated the game. Sheff Utd had their moments but we were just too strong for them. As expected Drogba was rested. Sheva and Lampard were subbed in the second half for Drogba and Ballack. Diarra was on the bench and Khalid played all too well that I didnt miss Diarra much. Let’s not underplay this win. The defence did a good job. They had a good understanding and communication with Cech. The midfield was very solid. Kalou and SWP were little over-enthusiastic at times while Robben was a constant threat. Arjen was unlucky not to get a goal or an assist against his name.

Let’s put the Premiership and the six point gap aside now. We’ve got the FA Cup quarterfinal replay against Tottenham on Monday at the White Hart Lane. We will have our key players available, we have got decent rest and we are in an unbeaten streak. This one should be cracker!
