Not one of those five-star Chelsea games. We played well enough to nick three points. Portsmouth truly stretched us as much as they can. With some luck, they could have even got a draw. It was quite an average performance from Chelsea or you can that was the Chelsea machine in motion – typically robust and physical in defence and grinding out results. This win, and for that matter, all the wins to come, are absolutely crucial in the title race.
Apart from Petr Cech, i dont think anyone else had a great game as such. Diarra had a very good game and Lampard was good too. Ashley Cole was involved in both the goals but was not shining as much as you’d expect. Drogba scored his 29th goal of the season but still had a bad match losing possession countless number of times and had some heavy touches too often. Robben should have done a lot better and absolutely screwed some sitters for assists. Shevchenko did complain of not getting the ball but he did get very good service in the second half but for some reason, expects the defenders to be a yard away from him. Kalou was lucky to get a goal for himself.
Petr Cech mad the difference today. His saves in the second half were top notch. This was what we were missing when Hilario was on goal. Hilario did his very best but even at his best, he could not produce even half of what Cech can. Not only his saves, the way he commands his area during set pieces is fantastic. It does take a very horrible defensive effort or a outstanding strike to beat this man.
Jose was happy that there were no injuries in this match:
It was a big victory today and no injuries. That is almost unique this season. If the best keeper in the Premiership had not been out for four months how many more points would Chelsea have? He is a keeper who gives us 10 to 15 points a season.
When Jose was asked about Man Utd’s lucky phase:
Are they lucky? Yes. They win the last minute and they have no injuries so the Gods are with them. But we have to be honest and fair with them and give them what they deserve which is big respect to the manager and the players. Our job is to keep winning matches and get back to six points (behind) and have the pressure on them. We have to win all our matches and wait for them to drop some points.
Well, Man Utd are really riding their luck. Their goal was absolutely against the run of play and Liverpool should feel robbed, especially after getting a legal goal disallowed. We have won matches in the last few minutes but those were deserving victories and they were not against the run of play. Man Utd seems to have thier luck too win even in those matches where they have struggled and have been thoroughly dominated, like today’s match.
Okay, Man Utd have won a difficult away game against a top team. And after the match, they did celebrate as if it was their title winning match. That’s exactly what I want them to do. They should get complacent at some point of time. Table leaders do lose matched in March and April. That’s when you play too many matches, either get tired or complacent or lose focus. In the 2005-06 season, when we were 15 points off Man Utd, we lost 3-0 shockingly to Boro and weeks later we lost to Fulham. Similarly, when Man Utd claimed to chase us hard, didn’t they draw with Sunderland at Old Trafford to their intolerable frustration? These things happen.
I would say, under the circumstances, it’s easy for me to keep the faith!

a crappy display by man u say then seize three points frm lkiverpool. but chelsea won and that wat counts, the l;ast 5 mins of the game were good as subs bridge, kalou, and wrights phillips really worked the pompey defence ……i am sure manchester will alip up but we cant afford any chances like we were lucky with cech’s brillaitn saves that could have cost us a lot. We have to keep the pressure and keep faith.
GO BLUES
Now I understand what costed us 3 draws in row: against Reading, Fulham and Aston Villa.
They costed us the Premiership.
Now must win the Champions League whatever the cost is.
The premiership isn’t a lost cause. We’re really only 6 points behind. If we beat them, it’s only three. So we need to win one game more than them apart from our game against them. It certainly doesn’t sound impossible.
why is it when ever ryan giggs throws his arms in the air he gets a free kick… 1st in champions league now in premiership! more than the gods are with them Jose!
We can get the difference back MANURE’S bubble will burst and we will come through fighting!!
DNT GIVE UP ON US YET!!!!
The one day I really wanted Liverpool to win. Oh well, the prem race isn’t over yet. But, it’s kind of hard to imagine Man U blowing their lead. If Chelsea gets the Champions League (prefered) or the FA with the Carling, I can be happy considering the rash of injuries and poor returns on our latest mercinaries. I thank God and some good doctors that Cech is back and doing so well.
The title is gone and make no mistake abt that , the best we can do is keep on the chase but its a dead end for sure , even when they will come visiting the Bridge they will play for a draw knowing that it wld be enough to win them the league unlike last time when they needed to win and were thrashed!!!!!!!
Iclie Liverpool couldnt do us a favour but who can when United r favoured by the Gods , refrees and other clubs mind u , other clubs hate us a thousand times more than United!!!!!!!
The champs league shld be the onlys aim now , but Terry will not play this tie agnst Porto , hope we get through and get the CL then i wont mind United taking the title!!!!!!
Well Manure got 3 points but what did they lose ?
They’ve lost Scholes to a red card for 3 matches and Rooney had a bad gash on the knee.
Yup I would say they’re lucky but when they lose one , just one match or draw one then the difference will be telling .
also u can’t say that Manure was as focused as us in chasing the title last year. No sir .
We are focused on all fronts .
If they try or think that they can try for the Champions league or the FA at the same time they go for the EPL title that would be perfect for us.
You never know , they might take the title but not because we conceded it to them.
But a few things are for sure : We’re getting more silverware this season, we’re gonna be storming the league mext season, and it can only get better for CFC if the internal bickering ceases.
Not that I’m sayng I’ve given up hope for the Premiership this year . I certainly haven’t.
It’s just gonna take a combination of factors .
You know if we might take the title .just pip them to it.
Stranger things have happened in this world .
joeblue
stranger things have happened in football than chelsea making a comeback and manu losing points from now on. read the instances mentioned by BC in the post. all this needed is manu losing a match and drawing one apart from losing to us. is this so impossible? i dont think so.
romanholiday – may be we typed in our comments at the same time but the bottomline in our messages is the same – stranger things have happened in football!
And they( ManUre )also got solsher out for a operation . The swede larsson back home after a game . So the rest of the season they gotta be real careful .their squad is too thin to go for cup runs .And they got quite a few games left to play.
So let’s all hope they get cocky or complacent and start to underestimate teams
All that is gonna count in the run in .
SAF will guard against that but with the youngster Cronaldo and the unreliables of wes brown and O” lucky one time ” shea
they will need more than a bit of luck.
Let me calculate the number of games they got left or possibly got left
Prem matches : 9
FA : 2-3 ( If they get to the finals before
getting bashed by us )
Champions league : 3 ( presuming they get to the
quarterfinals which is
perfectly possible )
So they got : 15-16 matches left in just a little more
than 3 months
So if we get JT back quick and maybe Joe Cole , we stand a realistic and more than mathematical chance of doing it.
JM will take us all the way to the silverware .
Petr will keep all of the ballls out and Drogs will bash in all the winning goals.
Chelsea look mean and efficient and are a bit lean in some positions but certainly more focused and hungry and capable of mounting a challenge to regain the title , much better than the spinleless spurs, artsey fartsey arsey , muddled befuddled liverpuddle .
Let’s do it ! Take on all comers . and KO them !
Go Blues
Right ,Bingo
Good coincidence though
Hey Romanholiday! I hope you’re still online. How do you like this theme?
BC nice theme….
keep it up.
lets hope manutd to loose points….
and BC why terry is not playing against PORTO?
Thanks a lot Zubinj9. Terry is out because he has not fully recovered from Abou Diaper’s full-blooded kick. JT is expected to be on pitch against Spurs for the 11-mar FA Cup game.
Hi BC and all, nice theme by the way. but i prefer u put some pics/vids to show moments in the game Chelsea play just to show some of our fans who missed the match.
anyway, we won against pompey and im waiting our action against man city.
i agree what u guys said about ManUre’s luck. and i am starting to dislike Fibreglass style of play. in the last arsenil game he did score an own goal. nice flick though…ehehe.
roman holiday, if ManUre will play 15-16 matches, how many will Chelsea play? whats our best strategy to stay fresh and win all games until the end of the season….?
lets do it
come on joseeeeeee
