Chelsea 4-0 Wigan: Surely, some crisis!

Robben2.jpg

He stole, he ran, he beat & he scored!

I just set up this new poll about Chelsea answering the critics just before the start of today’s match. Today’s result has just spoilt all the fun. Before anyone jumps that it’s only Wigan that we mauled today, I want tell them that we won 4-0. That’s it. We have been seeing Chelsea unable to beat crap oppositions and not even able to maintain a clean sheet. So now, you have a clean sheet and a bagful of goals.

After the match Jose said:

When you are winning matches, the next step is to win with a great performance, when you are not winning matches, the next step is to win. Today was about winning.

Very practical. We should concentrate more on the results for some more time until we get back to a level of comfort (is there one in the Premiership?)

What a pleasure it is to see Robben fit and playing like he always does. The last match he played, also against Wigan, he simply outclassed their defenders and really showed what he is capable of. This match, once again, he was always a livewire and Wigan has been stepping on him too often. His was typically pacy and dribbled at will and had Wigan on their toes. He stole the ball, raced away, rounded off the keeper and tapped in coolly - that was Arjen Robben. He should have easily got another goal but for a great save from Kirkland.

I felt all the players did very well today, they were very determined and they wanted to prove a point. Kalou could have been better. I was expecting Jose to sub him much earlier for Sahar. I dont want to surprise you, but Ballack did play well today. He did not do a Ballack that we know, but atleast he showed a gritty display and threw himself wherever he can. Every match he plays, Obi Mikel keeps impressing me. His perfect cross gave Drogba a deserved goal. When we are having such a good game, how can he miss out?

CheWigsco.PNG

As much as the 4 goals, what pleased me was that we kept a clean sheet. Our defence was not at its technical best but we were very sure in our attitude that we simply did not want to concede. That shows in this statistic. Wigan had Heskey, Camara, McCulloch but still they had just 2 shots off target and just 1 on target! I couldnt recollect when they had that shot on target. The wing backs did well to abort the attacks at their level and prevented any crosses that might question the communication between our centre defence and Hilario.

Ricardo deserves a special praise for every match that he has played in Terry’s absence. He was simply the leader of the back line. Essien’s utility as a centre defender is proving highly fruitful. In this same team, if Terry comes in defence and Essien moves to the central midfield, you can imagine what kind of balance it would lend to our team and formation.

Jose was happy that his special players were back:

It was a very good result for us. We pushed the defence up, scored a few goals, played with a good spirit and dominated the game. After a run of three league games without a win it is nice to get one. It has been a dark period in that we haven’t won, but a light one because we haven’t lost despite all our problems.

We have missed our special players recently. You saw the way Robben played today - imagine if we had been able to call upon him over Christmas, a lot of the results might have been different.

Must be a relieved man, Jose! He is fighting character and he definitely would want to prove a point or two. Are we going to witness a brilliant Chelsea comeback in this season led by the inimitable Jose Mourinho?

Lampard’s free kick goal:

Robben’s solo:

Obi’s cross & Drogba’s header:

A dominating 4-0 result was exactly what we needed at this point of time. I dont know whether we have answered the critics yet, but atleast we are well on course for that. We have a very important weekend coming up where we visit Anfield and Man Utd visit the ‘Emigrants’. While I’m sure that Cudicini will be on goal next week, I just hope that Captain John makes his return too.

If we beat Liverpool at Anfield, surely we can lock the trophy in our cabinet and lose the key!

Great win, and more great Robben’s performance.
btw: in BBC’s interview Jose mentioned that Cech is coming back on Monday. So probably he will be on goal next week.

What a game? what a way silence all the critics! i’m just loving it. 4-0 and media would be quiet for some time.

i thought we defended superbly and wigan was never in the match. we are coming back to our best and with carlo coming in the next match, we are back to haunt the opponents.

what a way to prepare for the big match at anfield. bring on liverpool.

guys. now u understand that if so many players were not injured unexpectedly, we would won games with ease. who anticipated half a dozen important players will be out for some time?

hats off to the grit and determination of the chelsea team. now this would have given huge confidence and belief for the team. robben was awesome. remember, for the next game, sheva will be back too.

Well ‘controlled’ game today despite of on & off the field problems.

Was Sheva injured today OR he was just out of the team?

We need Cech / Cudicini, Terry, A. cole back for next match. I would like to see more of Sahar & Maka should be OLD Makalele in the coming matches.

Ballack certainly looked team player today.

next weekend will be most crucial. Last time when we had Che - Liv and Man U - Ars, if the same results can be achieved we will be thru’ (allthough i’ve few doubts about Man U going down to ‘Emigrants’)

Liv. are having good home record but their inability to handle big opponents has costed them dearly.

Please update me on Terry, Cech, cudicini’s status.

I have watched the goals, seems to me we played well. Looked at Ballack’s stats on Eurosport and he gained more points than Lamps. Has he played so well? Was Sheva injured or ….?

But let’s not be too carried away with this result, after all it was poor Wigan and we are still 6 points behind. I hope we will beat Loserpool with a good margin and beautiful display while Arsenal can do us a favour by beating Mancs. If this happens we can expect a thrilling end of the season. Let’s keep fingers crossed.

Jose, in his typical style said this:

“On Monday I have a 50 million pound player and we don’t have to pay to have him. I’m serious. He’s ready to play, the best goalkeeper in the world is ready to play.

After three months without him, after three months where Hilario did very, very well and Carlo, when he was playing gave also Jose a good contribution, Petr Cech is back. I’m not saying he plays but he is ready to play football again.”

So, now your doubts about Cech are resolved, I hope.

BC, you’re absolutely right: a win is nice but a CLEAN SHEET is what’s impressive. One thing I was very happy to see was Hilario (yes, Hilario) actually come out and command the box. Too many times in the past his indecisions and hesitations have cost us goals. Today he owned the box. Good on him and the entire team, a great effort.

Now let’s rally a huge win over ‘Pool and make the devils quake!

Oh, I almost forgot: Wayne Bridge should start ALL THE TIME. The kid’s awesome -> great speed, accurate passes, hard working and a lot less bitchy than Ashley. I was very impressed.

I agree with Bombtea, Bridge should get more starts until Ashley starts getting in real form.

Robben, as usual, comes from injury and starts blasting away, unlike any other player I have seen.

Ballack seemed much more in control this match and I guess Sahar and Mikel did well too.

Only disappointments were Paolo and Kalou. It wasnt their best of days.

Thankfully it seems like we are starting to look like the old CFC again.

Since we have our confidence back lets take out all of our energy on liverpool. Personally i don’t see man u beating arsenal as there is potentially going to be a 3 point difference at the end of next week ( hopefully). Let’s keep the faith in chelsea. Praise to robben for a wondeful performance. Maka is suspended for the liverpool game and i dont know which players will be fit for the game, so it is hard to predict the formation of the game. I want to see robben for 90 minutes as he just killed wigan last game.

Hey BC , the comment u picked out of the Kop blog says everything for me -’IF WE CAN COME BACK FROM 3 DOWN’ CFC can never ,ever do that , what if they havent won the title for 16 seasons(though its a lot) but they hav 18 titles in their belt r u satisfied with CFC’s 3???? They hav been the last English side to win the Champs lg only back 2 years , and further 5 titles under their belt when hav we won it???? Let me give a hint - it is equal to 0 , this is the time , with Cech and Terry back we hav the best chance to win the ultimate prize, if all the players remain fit i surely see CFC lifting the coveted Champions lg trophy!!!!!!!!

GO BLUES!!!!!!!!!!

Chelsea was and is (in my opinion) the best at grinding down the opposition whether it be Barca or Watford and winning.

Yes we may not have the the free-est flowing game or lots of tricks and back-heel flips of u-know- who Ronny-boy but the Chelsea game has been founded on consistency like our mid-field boss Lamps and hopefully Ballack becomes a rock for us before long too.

Another point I want to make about all that shit about RA wanting Chelsea to play “beautiful football ” is that both Ballack and Sheva are not renowned for their fancy footwork and flick and trick antics but for their effectiveness at winning .
So if they were were brought in at RA’s behest how could he want Chelsea to play like Barca or whoever.
Just something that came to mind.

Also would any CFC fan want chelsea to play like Liverpuddle,? muddling around losing to Arsey two games in a row one week horribly and then winning by a margin the next game .Don’t think so. YEs Liverpool have got history all right . But that kind I’ll pass.
Watch Liverpool’s movement , of course they pass and pass and shoot and shoot exciting to watch of course but 2 times outta 5 the opposition knows its all smoke without a fire and their attack will fizzle out in the last half hour of a game .

So I guess JM’s job for the coming week is to figure out how to stop them from scoring in the first half and then grind them down score with a fantastic team or individual effort then hold on for dear life.
So it’s gonna be a good game and Chelsea’s gonna do it , win against Liverpool and our season will be in great condition.

And if JM goes from CFC , that’s gonna be a big BIG BIG MISTAKE. His so-called loudmouthed announcements
( depends on ur culture to judge what kinda comments they are) are entertaining , motivating and warm and frank to Chelsea players , Chelsea fans and the most of the football following public.
Even without sulking players no manager in the world would be able to do what JM has done with Chelsea. No semi-final hiddink for me .
Even with Robben back yesterday all the clubs are saying Oh No….. . So when PEter is back between the sticks with JT in front of him and the whole team marauding in front and then swarming back to defend it’s wins and wins and titles . That’s what I want to see before long .I hope they’re back soon .

All the best

joered i mean joeblue . . .

Why do you think, we can never make a comeback like Liverpool did against Milan?

May be because we wont concede three!

Are you a real chelsea fan or an arse/manu fan in disguise.

I have my doubts. BC, when you come to know aboup joeblue’s true identity, you should ban him!

Go away joeblue go away. Dont spoil our spirit here.

I agree with Blueblood, the fans were really at their best last match ( one of the factors could be the lack of wigan support), but they really did a great job in conveying their feelings, after all it was Jose who brought CFC so many trophies and glory.

Also, I’am always surprised to see players like Robben, Joe, Duff and Bridge come out of a long break. They always seem to play like they have been starting for a month or so. Its just wonderful to see their enthusiasm and drive on the field.

Maybe this is the first time i hav not agreed with u but sorry Decider the Liv-CFC game is gonna be much tighter than a 5-0 away victory for me the result will be a 1-2 to CFC , and i really doubt that Arsey r gonna beat Manu (though i really hope they do) especially when they r without their most dynamic player of the season Gilberto Silva who’s suspended 0-2 Manu!!!!!!!

Joeblue,

Don’t be so pessimistic,

Maybe logic says that we won’t be able to beat scousers and The French Legion will be beaten by Mancs but still not always logic works in football. I think “Emigrants” have enough power to play without Gilberto and the only thing Chelsea players need is to be reminded of 2 years ago semifinal of Champ. League second leg at Anfield and to be ordered to get a cruel revenge with a fashion. I think this Saturday will be D-Day for Chelsea this season. If we beat we will chase Mancs to the death till the end and hopefully will see them off the top come May. If we draw or lose then there will be no sense of talking for the league title anymore this season even for the most loyal fan of CFC. This win is needed not only to keep pressure on Mancs but also for psychological reasons. We need a fuel to rocket us to the top. Either we’ll get that fuel at Anfield or we’ll get it nowhere. I’m sure the fuel we need is under the Anfield grass. Come on Blues, dig it out!!!

joered . . i mean . . joeblue

do you what it means about supporting a club? i’m sure that if chelsea does not win the title this season and next season, more than half of the new fans would go away, including you.

that time you would quote some reason or the other to switch yourself to arsenal, manu or liverpool.

instead of going away after two seasons, go away right now. we dont need you. and never use abusive language. we are decent chelsea fans.

I agree with mid -decider. It gonna have to be a super performance and VICTORY at the KOP.
And it could be a decisive moment for this season.
Is Chelsea motivated ?
Only Jose can prepare them to be .

If JT can play , the game and 3 points are 70% in our pockets . Think of the psychological boost it would be if he came back now.
I’m praying , keeping my fingers crossed ,and gonna watch the match with a steely eye and clenched fists.
