Chelsea vs Wigan: 13-Jan-2007

Back to our best?

After a week of speculation about Chelsea’s new signings and Jose’s conflict with the Board and his exit from Chelsea, we are finally back to Premiership football. The good news is that some key players are back in our squad - Drogba, Sheva, Carvalho and Robben. So, in this match, we do have one central defender who might pair up with Paulo.

I have a feeling that Jose’s comments about the Board and his future are all just his gimmicks to keep the Press away from Chelsea’s dropping of points and the stars that are not shining enough. It is always Jose’s tactics that he draws the Press away from his players to keep the pressure off them. Has the Press been talking about Sheva or Ballack or Hilario for the last couple of weeks? They seems to have forgotten about it for a while. It’s all about Jose moving to Inter and Guus Hiddink getting ready for Chelsea . . .

After the Wigan match I would post in this blog, the complete message by Jose to the Chelsea fans. We can have another round of reading between his smart lines.

Coming back to today’s match, I hope Jose matches the playing eleven I have drawn up. The only problem here is that, if nothing seems to happen, we cannot bring in an impact player from the bench. We have an out-of-form SWP, inexperienced Sahar, a just-fit Cudicini, not-so-confident Kalou and may be a lack-lustre Maka. This shows that we need to somehow win the match in the first hour.

Lampard says the team know exactly what to do this Saturday:

We are very determined to win this weekend, to put an end to three draws in the league. Three draws is not good enough to win us the championship again. This is a good chance to do that. It’s a home game. Wigan are a strong team, we found that out a few weeks ago but no excuses, we need to win.

With the available team today, we should be able to control the game and knock Wigan out of the game, especially considering that Wigan is also missing some key players including their captain. The most key things today would be that Essien and Lampard should take the effective roles in the formation as the centre midfielders.

Some experts do predict a big win for Chelsea expecting a reaction from the team. The Chelsea team very well knows that we cannot afford to lose any more points. If just a 6-point gap has created so much furore, any more points dropped would draw more criticism and noise. Unfortunately, the noise is more from the ‘fans’ from ‘Stamford Grudge’ (just coined this word for the ever-grudging Chelsea ‘fans’).

We all know that Liverpool is a far far bigger club than Chelsea and has 18 titles and 5 times European champions. After the stunning 3-6 loss (worst ever in aout 70 years) at home, a liverpool fan says this in the kopblog:

We still have the Champions league and premiership. It’s not impossible, if we can come back from 3 down against that Milan side, Fucking hell we can do just about anything!

If we had lost 3-6 at the Bridge, how many Chelsea fans would say something like this? I wish the new Chelsea fans grow up soon!

yes i agree, even we friends were discussig that may be this jose story is all about distracting the press which jose does very well. i think we should win 3-0 today. i’m fine with your team BC but i think essien as holding midfielder wuld be better than him being a central midfielder where he will push up exposing the inexperienced out of position defence and hilario. anyways, in your team, we would attack more and we should put the match out of wigan’s reach in the first half itself.

I agree to certain extent with BC that it could be CFC putting on a smoke screen as all the comments/rumours about JM CFC what not and all have been hopelessly screwed up and illogical, if they were true it would be a house hopelessly divided and we all should just kiss the titles goodbye and B58 comments about disrespect for the fans too is valid . So if they’re gonna cause us exasperation it betta be for a good cause like taking the pressure off the players .
LIke the who brought in sheva and ballack ….debate/controversy whatever …….
Wouldn’t it be in the interests of JM,RA and everyone at the cub and the fans if sheva and ballack performed ?
What has JM gonna benefit from them not performing even if RA brought them in to give CFC a higher profile whjen JM wanted other younger players ?
U see refuting every media report is soooo tiresome and futlie.
I want Chelsea to speak with its feet and with lots of goals in the oppositions net.

Well done,

Now I expect 5-0 against Loserpool at Anfield next week and Arsenal to beat Mancs at Emirates.

Keep Robben injury-free.

I like this flying dutchman ROBBEN

I would take him and C. Ronaldo to world’s best 11 as two wingers on these days.
