Chelsea vs Arsenal - 10 Dec 2006

Drogba_Sheva2.jpg

How about a goal each? (Lampard & Ballack will score the rest!)

Big match at the Bridge this Sunday. Last time in the corresponding fixture we were a bit lucky to win though we never looked like losing. This time I expect a more comfortable game than in the last 2 seasons (but doesnt mean it’ll be an easy game!).

I think Jose would chose his flagship team with Sheva and Drogba, awesome foursome of Lampard, Ballack, Makelele and Essien. The back four might just be Terry, Carvalho, Ashley Cole and Geremi.

Bigger match this one for Ashley Cole and Gallas, if he is fit to play. I want to see Gallas score that own goal that he craved for. Carvalho has been excellent in the last few matches, even if you dont take into account his equaliser against Man Utd.

Ballack is very surprised about Arsenal’s situation now:

I’m a little surprised they are so far behind in the league in terms of points so early on. They have a young and very good team who’ve played some excellent stuff on occasions. At times though, they’ve also failed to pick up the points and lack a bit of consistency. But whenever they come up against the big teams they show their class and we need to be careful.

I dont see Arsenal scoring. I just dont. But I expect a very tough match. As Arsene Whinger said, this fortnight would make or break their season. If Chelsea draws or loses, the Arsenal would become a team to beat, wont be in transition anymore, will be back in the title race, and would show the world how to beat Chelsea. Get ready for these kind of headlines, if they win.

And Jose! Please stay away from Arsene after Sheva scores that goal!

My prediction: 1-0.

Roman says
I have been wrong before but without regrets
I have been right many times but without mirth at others losing

But Sunday this time Chelsea win, win comfortably
We can forget about losing or headlines, BC

Cause if we don’t take Arsey by the scruff and whack its arse on Sunday we don’t deserve to be in the run for the title .

If we can take on the much better Barca at home and win and dominate , don’t think there will be much trouble with this Arsenal team.

I think its bertter for a half fit Henry to play .
It will show just how desperate they are and we get to play 11 against 10 and a half men
JM will slowly turn the screws tighter and tighter as the match goes on

Enjoy the match guys

Hey Anonymous! If I’m so obsessed with Arsenal’s poor form, I would have predicted a 3-0 win for Chelsea. Look at all predictions in BBC Sport and other websites. They all are predicting a 2-0 and 3-0 win for Chelsea. I really respect Arsenal that they would do well at the Bridge and that’s why I say it might be a 1-0 for us.

arsenal defence is so inexperienced and poor. we should hammer them 3-0. we should score the first goal within 15 minutes. in fact it is one of the easier matches that we have.

True. their defence is too weak for sheva, drogba, lampard, ballack and essien. we will hit the last nail in their coffin.

Slightly different comment from the topic of the post.

What do people make of Mourinho’s suggestion of scrapping reserve team football and allowing EPL teams to play their “B” teams in the 1st div, a la Real Madrid?

I think it’s an excellent idea that would ensure greater quality in the lower leagues…

Also, how about having more players allowed on the subs bench in EPL matches?

Love to hear other people’s thoughts…

B teams in first division is a practice that exists in countries like Spain. But the problem is if the B teams of top clubs are allowed to play in first division, this would mean some existing clubs in first division will have to make way, which is very unfortunate.

From the top clubs’ perspective it is good as it gives match practice for all reserve team players and keep them on their toes. From the first division clubs perspective, this can happen only at the expense of some exisitng clubs.

Allowing more players on the bench is somthing I would love to see. Especially in a league where the players get less protection from the referees and too many injuries, more subs on the bench is a good comforting sight for the manager. If manager chooses not to have a left back in the bench and if the left back on the pitch is slightly injured or tired, the manager has to compromise for a out-of-position player or is forced to continue with the injured/tired player, which might aggravate the situation.

On the other hand, with less players on the bench, team selection becomes very crucial and managers with depth in the team strength and tactically superior managers will have the edge.

Hey guys the idea to increase the no. of subs is great why does only the Epl allows 5 whereas both in the serie A as well as La Liga it is 7 cant figure that out !!!!!

Anyways anyone seen the Arsenal injury list???? Let me give u an update Rosicky,Henry,Diaby,Lauren,Gallas and Toure will miss the match due to suspension!!!!!
Aint that great news my prediction is a whacking 3-0!!!!!!

Arsene Wenger says this - “The morale in the squad is very high and I feel we can go there and beat them. I want to win the Premiership and it is a good chance on Sunday to reduce the gap between us and Chelsea. It is up to us to do it. It is always difficult to win there but I would give everything for us to do it and go on to win the title”

Although i want to see sheva and ballak playing in the first team.
But this ruins the chlsea formation a little bit, like in the big match against MANU sheva and ballak were mostly spectators.
I would like to see chlsea play with the old formation 4-3-3 with robben, cole, drogba upfront lampard, essien, makelele in the middle against arsenal. And if the need arises sheva and ballak can come on as subs.

I hope we humiliate arsenal and show them where they belong. their arrogant years are over and behind them. let us show them the reality. Go Pompey! knock the gooners from the top 4.

Cool it guys! It wont be as easy as you think. Arses are really charged up now and they feel they need to prove a point. This is one mentality you would not want your oppositio to be in. We have to be cautious. 0-0 by first half would do for me.

The Gunners really can’t defend all the time
And they actually can’t attack us all the time either
So ,they try to keep possession as much as possible
But we’re much better in the midfield
And if their goalkeep wears that cap he’s goner be half-blind
Their manager is making noises of bravery and so on so forth

So who’s gonna win tonight ?
No prizes for the right answer

( Hey guys ,u think goners gonna call me an uppity uber-confident fan/bastard and a ………. of Chelsea for stating the truth ?)

Yours truly
Roman

its 1-1. points difference is 8 with one game in hand.
i don’t see we overtaking MAN U this time. I know it too early, but the way we played today was boring. Too many mispasses, give up possession too cheaply. not good defending, Sheva not clicking, always waiting for something 2 happen before really firing. I was very upset the way we played.

Sorry, but no hopes.

Hey Gooner,

Lucky u , wasn’t it last night ?
If u think luck and the crossbar that is gonna get u the title
or overtake us in the standings
Ha Ha Ha LOLO :LOLOLOLOLOLOL

Is Arsenal the the Man U B-team now ?
Is that why you’re happy that u held us to a draw
While daddy o’ capitalised on Man city’s god-awful mistakes ?

Show some class and not use profanity like “wankers” etc

The spite and crassness of such posts like that are only what most Arsey fans can come up with.

Oh I see. Arsey and their fans are celebrating DRAWS now.
How far u have fallen !

Come on I’m baiting u , boy

Hey u dan how r u feeling???? Delighted to come away with a point , right that must have been great for u keeping in mind ur teams current form it looks like u gonna earn more than half ur points this way anyway before the season ends!!!

Guys i am pissed of by the draw we were by far the better team striking the woodwork 3 times does not help either ; i dont know about u all but Sheva is past his prime now and the players we should focus on r Joe and Robben not old dogs like Sheva and Ballack, i have tested my patience and this is as far as it goes if this goes on then the title race is over!!!!

And BC we should have a discussion abt Sheva and Ballack maintaining their place in the side i surely feel Sheva aint gonna fire and Ballack’s role is as confusing for me whats going on????

There are times during the match when one can see Ballack just standing in the middle of the field reluctant to go forward and not deep enough to defend infact he was obstructing Essien and Lamps on more than half a dozen ocassions!!!!!!! What exactly is he supposed to do???I dont see the commitment , sorry to say!!!
