Bolton Wanderers vs Chelsea: 29-Nov-2006

BolChe.PNG

Let’s pound them - Chelsea style!

The most difficult match for the next one month comes up on Wednesday night. You can say that they have erased their bad memories of the 0-4 drubbing in the Reebok Stadium at the hands of Man Utd with their crushing of Arsenal with a good 3-1 scoreline. All other things being equal, I can expect 3 points with ease.

But the whole new feeling for Jose’ team is they are trailing by 3 points. Last 2 seasons, we always had the luxury of 9 to 12 points which allowed some point drops and still being in No.1. This time, we are walking on a tightrope. We cannot afford to drop points as Man Utd have a fairly easier set of matches this December after they negotiate Everton at the Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Sam Allardyce had the balls to ridicule Arsenal before their match against them and when they got on the pitch, Bolton did murder them 3-1. I’m sure Sam wouldn’t do such a thing to Chelsea or Jose as we have come out successful in many of the recent matches against them. I hope you remember our 5-1 win against them after we went 0-1 down. Big Sam won’t open him mouth.

One big question that is hovering in the air is whether Sheva/Ballack should be dropped. To be honest, I didnt expect them to hit the road from their Chelsea debut. They are expected to take some time to settle down and get used to the football of a their new league. Still after a dozen of games, they are not at their best or even near-best.

Don’t get me wrong. I love these champion players Sheva and Ballack. But, with both of them playing, I dont think we are playing at our best. While they may still need more time to hit top form, I wouldn’t mind dropping them for some key fixtures like this travel to the Reebok stadium. Until I’m convinced that they are in fine form I wouldnt play them in the crucial big matches.

To be fair, if Joe Cole and Robben are not getting starts now when Sheva and Ballack are not in form, do you think they can get starts afterwards. Don’t even tlak about SWP. And you’ve got the impressive Kalou in the bench as well. Jose is always known for his tough measures approach and he has showed us man times before that he does not mind sacrificing individual preferences for getting a team win. I would like this message to go out to all players in the Chelsea team that ‘if they play well they stay in the team, if they don’t they dont’.

One improvement that is not getting too much publicised is that Ashely Cole has been fantastic as the left back. After his rusty beginning, he has been playing superbly well. He has now handled Messi, Tevez and Cristiano Ronaldo and ensured none of these scored or assisted. It is nice to know, despite this, Wayne Bridge has signed for us for another 4 years. Ashley Cole says:

For me, Mourinho is a great manager and the way he got the boys up at half-time was brilliant. We then showed that we are good enough to win the title again. I am now feeling part of the team and part of the club and I am enjoying my game. We are nowhere near as good as we can be yet. I have played before against Chelsea and we are not hitting our peak form but when we do, watch out!

Some flashback now:

Bolton has been our happy hunting ground for some seasons now and we have sweet memories - including winning the first title under Jose!

Prediction: 0-2.

sheva should play. only because he is there drogba is scoring. sheva plays an important role in drawing defenders towards him to free drogba

we lack width and thats why we are not the fearsome team anymore. opponents use to fear us when we played 433 with pacy wingers. i want that back at the cost of shevcehnko or drogba. we have never dependant on the strikers scoring anyway.

it’s surprising that you’re slating sheva. in fact, ballack is the one who is not contributing much. i want to see ballack out and see joe or arjen for ballack.

Both joe and robben deserve a start. is it possible to have lampard, ballack, essien, joe cole, robben, sheva, drogba all in the same team?

Well as joke
the team could be like this but we would have to attack all the time . and put on three defenders after we have scored 5 goals in the first half

sheva ——- drogba
robben jcole

lampard ballack

makelele

acole jt essien

cudicini

I agree that we need to attack incessantly but I think we lack players for that. Most of our players are slow movers like Lampard,Ballack,Drogba etc. For creating havoc we need really pacy wingers and strikers.Sane Robben most of our players are not in that mould. Thats why we play mostly in mid or at back and try to score in set pieces.Wish it could change.

Ballack has looked poor of late, not tight enough in defensive marking or discipline on the field. Also we have Lampard there to beild the first phase out of defense. I’d like to see Joe Cole replace Ballack against Bolton and see Jose persevere with Andriy. We need to play the ball to Sheva on the ground and in space, instead of over the top. Knockdowns from Drogba are not the best for him. Playing a 4-3-3 also allows defenders to be drawn away which would give him abit more space to run into.
Prediction 1-0 Chelsea.

let’s kill them we need a game in which we score alot of goals….. a 4-0 at least should be fine…….i don’t care about sheva or ballack even if they are not contributing to the team as well as others but i want to see the 4-3-3 formation once again with kalou up front with joe cole and robben as wingers……might be better to rest drogba and sheva…if that doesn’t come with any progress Jose can make a few changes at half time to make things right…i can’t stand being second to manchester when we are better than them…..so we’ve got some catching up to do.

It’s nice to see that there are lot more people waiting to see 4-3-3 just like me. It’s kinda obvious that Jose has opted for 4-4-2 only to accomodate Sheva and Ballack. Therefore, given Drogba’s form, the only possibility for us to see 4-3-3 is by dropping Sheva. I was the one who was supporting Sheva and backing him. I still love him. But when we are trailing by 3 points and the fact that one more defeat could put us in a bigger gap, makes me worry.

And guys! For your information - There is a shameless copycat http://www.sports.lemonup.com who simply copies the articles from this blog and posts there. I’ve got no connection with him.

Guys! Do you know that it is rumoured that Chelsea has bid for David Villa at 22m? The rumour also says that David Villa is seen as a replacement for Sheva, who might leave in January.

I personally feel that Sheva is here to stay. He will come good and he will start raining goals and he will end his career in Chelsea. But this bid of David Villa seems to be true as Valencia has gone to the press to warn off Chelsea.

That’s because they’re not willing to leave him. £100m is Villa’s release clause amount.

Villa is one of the most lethal forwards in football today with an excellent technique, vision and the ability to bang in goals as well as set many up he is young and agressive and will be a perfect player for the epl if this is true!!!

I also want to see the 4-3-3 again with Drogba in the centre and Robben and Cole in support but jose prefers the 4-4-2 to accomodate Sheva personally i would like to see Cole back in the first team or we might loose him to another club, he is young and is getting better by every game if he leaves it will be a big loss!!!

Maybe you are right Jumbo but we must keep in mind we are a top team and really we cannot afford one of the 2 forwards to be out of form for so long cuz we are aiming for the champs league as well !!! And we cant keep on expecting Drog to come up with spectacular efforts , Sheva has to rise to the ocassion he is a top player no doubt but he has to contribute!! let him be a sub on the coming matches as well as Ballack and let Cole and Robben run havoc!!!!!!!!!

OK. The British press are having a field day regarding Sheva, which I think is absolutely disgraceful. The only thing the bloke has does wrong is not scored enough goals, but to score goals he needs to get the service. He has played a massive part in the rise of Didier’s fortunes but has sacrificed his own intentions.
Chelsea fans love ‘The Shev,’ and the media over here are now suggesting that Sheva will be leaving Chelsea on loan in January to go to AC.

Sheva’s problem is the lack of service from midfield. So that is a team problem and in partilcular Michael Ballack.

Ballack should be getting the stick and not Sheva. Against ManUre, Ballack was a disgrace. He was nowhere to be seen - HE IS living on his reputation to draw £130,000 per week from Chelsea.
When Ballack and Sheva signed I thought, a match made in heaven - ie. Ballack feeding Sheva wonderful passes for Sheva to run onto and to hopefully hit the ball in the back of the net.
MY dream has only happened ONCE and the pass was overhit - and that came in the 2nd half against ManUre on Sunday.

Sheva will come good BUT only if he gets the service!!!

COME ON CHELSEA
COME ON SHEVA

we keep saying that it’s only because of sheva, drogba has started scoring many goals. why can’t it be the other way round? why can’t sheva score using drogba’s presence? i’m sure they both get the same attention and marking from the defenders.

Hey BB58

I love Sheva as much as any Sheva fan would do. But what I’m concerned is, Jose should choose a team that would win the match. If this means leaving out Sheva or Ballack or Drogba or Lampard or Terry or whoever, he should do. He is a very bold manager and he would certainly put the team over the players. But sometimes I get the feeling that he accomodates players.

Well we win again 0-1 against Bolton. But we didn’t score as much as we wanted. Maybe we should be patient. Although I do want to see lots more 4-0,5-0 results. Why are we not scoring that much? too many maybes would be needed in the answers , but if the barrage of goals come in the deciding final stretch of the season in both the EPL and CL and we take the titles I am satisfied.
I told u guys we can only get better and we don’t have to worry about injuries whatever . That is the luxuy we have and we enjoy it.
My ManU supporting buddies are biting their nalis and keep looking over their shoulders to see where CFC is all the time .
Well it makes the race more interesting and fullfilling than ManU just slipping away without a fight. Look at Liverpool and Arsey shrivelling away before it’s even Xmas. A disgrace to call them “big teams ” . At least ManU is putting up a good brave face about it.

Dropping Ballack would be the biggest mistake agreed he is not playing at his best but he is strong, agressive and more importantly can score. he is also useful for the set pieces as well
For me there is no argument on who should be dropped its got to be Sheva scoring a miserly 4 times in achelsea shirt in 17 games is hardly the start for such a big signing he is not able to adapt and can neither score………he is yet to score in the champs league for which he was bought anyway!!!!!!!!
Recall J.Cole!!!!
