Chelsea 2 - 1 Portsmouth: Shevchenko & Ballack settle the issue!

Darling of the fans! First goal at the Bridge!
How sweet! Sheva and Ballack on the scoresheet. May be, Sheva was waiting for the meanest defence in the Premiership to resume normal service. Chelsea was attacking beautifully all along and once again, like against Barca, we should have ended up with more goals. There were a lot of positives out of this match.
Not to complain too much on our attack. When you hit about 15 on target and end up with only 2 goals, you can make out that the goalkeeper was having a great day. James made about half a dozen crucial saves, any of which could resulted in a goal, with any lesser amount of effort.
Jose opted for 4-3-3 by resting Maka and Boulah. Sheva was on the right wing. Robben was at his infuential best. He ended up in one-on-one situations quite a few times, only to be denied by sharp goalkeeping by James.
Sheva did exactly what Drogba did against Barca while he got the ball in front of the goal just outside the box, he turned and twisted and shot powerfully to the left of James. It is more than obvious now that Sheva is missing that bit fortune that has been accompanying Drogba. Now that he has scored, Jose has decided to bench him for the Carling cup match against Blackburn.
Drogba made some intelligent moves and he was always dangerous and he has started showing some genius-like touches more consistently now. His headed assist to Ballack was just to show how much he has improved and how well he is reading the game. He wasn’t even looking at Ballack, when headed that to him inch-perfectly. Ballack had good presence all through the game and his rocket-launcher goal all that he needed for his confidence.

Our defence was very tight, so tight that Pompey had only one shot on target all the match, which was the goal. That was the lowest point of the defence in the match where the communication among the defenders and the Hilario failed. There was suddenly some panic and Ricardo unsuccessfully cleared the ball while Hilario could have easily pouched it.
Jose brought in Maka and Boulah just to ensure that no points are lost. And they did increase the defensive shield and survived the some late attacks by Pompey. Both goalscorers - Sheva and Ballack, were yellow carded for their celebrations. The referee, Clattenbug needs to answer the question from the Boss:
Mr Clattenburg was the same referee when Robin van Persie scored and jumped the wall, went to the middle of the crowd and celebrated with the fans. No yellow card. At Stamford Bridge, there is no space behind the goal. The players just approached the wall and he booked Shevchenko and booked Ballack. That’s the real problem. The referee should explain why van Persie can do it and Chelsea can’t do it. The rules must be for everyone.
You Jose! You’re my man! Keep everyone on their toes, just like this!
So, we top the table again! I hope Man Utd loses to Liverpool which would put us firmly on top.

@Isaiah - then you may be a sad man in May 07. With Barca brought down to earth, I have complete confidence that I’ll be happy in May 07 (well, generally, we win the EPL in April lol)

Yeah, I’m looking forward to Liverpool winning over Man U. Just can’t wait for it but they’ve got to buck up man ..
Thanks again for this entry … a great update!
Cheers to Chelsea,
Christabel
Manu won, but no issues. We’ll catch them soon on goal diff, if they dont drop points.

Blue Champion: No offense to Christabel or anything, but I gotta say, He isn’t doing much for me these days…Chelsea will probably win the EPL, but that was a foregone conclusion when they were bought by Abramovich. Very few can deny they are a good team, but it’s not like they deserve to win another EPL championship, which is why I’m rooting for Aston Villa (all they have to do is keep on drawing, right? No defeats wins titles, right? They’ll make the playoffs anyway! Oh, you guys aren’t total idiots, you don’t have playoffs like the MLS).
Thing is, I said both the EPL and the Champions League. It was bad enough to see Barca go down against Chelsea and Madrid in consecutive matches, but if that means Madrid wins La Liga and Chelsea the EPL, screw this I’m going back to the NFL.
Barca can use a little creativity right about now, I think. I’ll trust you saw the Clasico and were further overjoyed to see the Chelsea of Spain win a game. Or maybe you don’t give a rat’s ass about such small teams (just saying, if Arsenal isn’t a big club, Barca and Madrid can’t really be that big either).
Come April I’ll be watching college basketball anyway as my team sweeps through the NCAA tournament and wins!…for the first time since 1988…been a while…

No worries about it, Isaiah. Great to hear you airing your thoughts & hope you feel.
Cheers
Christabel
@Isaiah! I can understand how boring and frustrating EPL has become for the neutrals and the rivals because of the Chelsea domination. I think this season will be very close. I dont agree that we bought the EPL when Roman bought us. Somewhere in the archives, you can find the long article I had written on this topic “there are some things money can’t buy”.

**** CHELSEA *** is a good .But Andry SHevchenko is a very good .
I like SHEVCHENKO
I have decided that if Chelsea wins the EPL this year AND takes the Champions League, that officially there is no God. Thank goodness the Yankees can’t win the World Series or my life would be over.
Why do we call it the World Series? Might as well call it the English World Championship League…and declare yourselves World Champions.
At least the Club Cup has a real global ring to it…Americans are stupid sometimes…well, often times…
