Inter, Madrid & Hamburg shocked in Champions League!

rvp.jpg

Don’t call it a dive, just faking a fall!

Champions league round one went as expected but for two surprises - Inter’s loss and Arsenal’s win. And Real Madrid’s loss was not quite a surprise, at least for me. Despite some of their recent wins and Ruud’s hattrick. Lyon just repeated their last european performance against Madrid. But you can’t write them off. They’ll com back strongly but I doubt if they can top the group. Having become the Serie A champions of the last year and making some big name signings, you don’t expect them to lose. Their situation is same as Real Madrid. I expect and want both these teams to progress to round two.

Arsenal scored their first goal courtesy another malicious dive by van Persie. The stand-in captain Gilberto scored a good penalty. For the ‘foul’ on van Persie the Hamburg goal keeper aslso got sent off and Arsenal was playing against a 10-men Hamburg for 80 minues! The second goal was a beauty by Rosicky. That must have been blasphemy of Arsene Wenger’s football philiosophy, when Rosicky shot from outside the box. In a team where half a dozen passes are made inside the box, Rosicky must be a rebel. If Arsenal should have any chance making any impact this season, they should encourage more such adventures from outside the box as well. AC Milan were back in their touch with a 3-0 win. The first two goals were brilliant Milan headers - first one coming from Inzaghi and the latter from the new kid Gourcuff.

42 goals in 16 matches. It’s been a festival so far of attacking football and playing for wins.

After barca and chelsea, milan are the best prepared and serious contenders for the title. They still play the way they used to, even without sheva.

Joe Cole is OUT for up to two weeks after his knee injury flared up again during his sub appearance against Bremen on Tuesday night.

Chelsea have announced ticket news for the Barca game. Click name for full details.

Did you say that Rosicky that he scored outside the box.

Oh my god. I cannot imagine the Wengers reaction to Rosicky’s idiotic ideas. He must be saying “why the hell you shoot when you can pass. Ok… this time we are lucky. Don’t anybody try to imitate Rosicky net time)

I think Wenger would have told that “If you are a team man, you pass and not try to score(even in a penalty you should pass and score…!!! remember Henry’s pass during a penalty last season).

Anyway they also got their 3 points in Champions Leage. They are always having a good patch in Champions Leage.

I dont think Arsenal can be a ’surprise winner’, because for them, every win is a surprise.

It’s still too soon to tell. I wouldn’t write off Real just yet though. They’re still very much of a work in progress.

My picks: Barca, Chelsea, and AC Milan

My surprise picks: Valencia and Real

Chelsea should beat Barca in the final (apart from the group league wins) and the semifinalists would be Lyon and Milan.

And there would be no surprises in the final eight.

Hey Thrall - Just because you played great football some seasons back need not come into your judgement. I know this may be a difficult thing for a fan to agree - Arsenal is playing poor football \’at this moment\’. Any of the Arsenal fan blogs or websites will tell you this.

Arsenal beaten Man utd…!I asure u that arsenal last season and especialy in the champions league(where she was udnerestimated) played a much more technicaly advanced football than any of the seasons before…!And this year just watch an arsenal match and u ll see that arsenal always ands with so many more chances of goal than the oppoment…what we lacked was finishing..but that doesnt mean we do not play good football…

Sorry Thrall! That’s not the way I see football. I agree Arsenal played well against Man United. But they did play very poorly in the last three matches. Getting 15+ corners and coming back empty-handed is no way technically advanced football.
