Football, finally!

chelsea-charlton.JPG

Preferred XI for the Charlton match

After the drama of the transfer window and hours and hours of discussions on the threats of William Garbage we can finally get down to football this weekend. It would be an important weekend of football as the big guns would start their champions league campaign during mid-week. First up, weekend footie.

Chelsea plays Charlton at home on Saturday at 15:00 UK. Well, Chelsea might just finish on top of the table on saturday, if there is a series of fortunate events. Ashley Cole may make his debut but that should be bad for Bridge because he has been playing so well in the last few games. Some good news is that Ballack scored 2 goals and with some luck and accuracy could have scored two more in Germany’s 13-0 goal fest against San Marino. And, sureshot Sheva scored for Ukraine as they beat Georgia 3-2.

I hope the Spurs shock Man Utd or at least share points with them. Liverpool might come out clear against Everton with Peter Crouch among the goals once again for England. Arsenal face Middlesbrough at the ‘Emigrants stadium’ (borrowed from kopblog!) and that could be a very close encounter. I won’t be surprised if Boro wins. And don’t miss the William Garbage own goal spectacle! He has been promising this for some weeks now!

Chelsea 2 - 0 Charlton
Man Utd 1 - 1 Tottenham
Arsenal 1 - 2 Middlesbrough
Everton 0 - 2 Liverpool

Predictions anyone?

All predictions are fine except that Arsenal might draw with Boro.

Wishful thinking or good sense of humour. I can even believe Chelsea being held all season, but i dont see arsenal winning the next 3 matches, why talk about season?

If we now talk on the team probables, i think we still should give a place for Kalou.

Knowing he is having a difficulty in adapting to EPL style of football he should be given some time to settle.

I wish to have him in bench and come on to play in Drogba\’s place.

I wish Cole to comeback from injury soon..

I think it should be either 2-0 or 4-0.

Now.
Use a bit of sense here. Why would JM get rid of Willie G to play Khalid at centre-back in front off Rickity Ricky. Ricky as you MUST surely know is JMs preferred partner for JT at centre half, but obviously not!!

Well you did invite me to post feedback

Mr.41-yr fan! Carvalho didn’t play well in the last few matches. Ok, today he got a good goal but it was Boulahrouz who outshone Carvalho in defence. I would still stick to my preferred XI as shown above. And for you info, Boulahrouz is a better defender than Carvalho. You can certainly check this with your friends who are following FSV Hamburger for the last 41 years.

Carvalho hasnt played well for a long time. Willie G is and will always be a better centre-half than Carvalho wil ever be. That is the problem. Willie G and JT should have been the preference and last season when they were togther the stats showed it, but unfortunately JM has other ideas and it isn’t Khalid. Sorry but it isnt. Khalid was outstanding today so WAS Wayne Bridge and Mr Cole got a better reception than I thought he would.

William is gone. Out of the current options, I would start with Terry, Khalid, Bridge and Ferreira. May be, Ashley or Carvalho coming in as sub later.

Sportsob I have been following Chelsea for 41 years.

Anyway this is the line-up that I think will start against Bremen on tuesday night.

Cech

Ferreira
Terry
Carvalho
A Cole

Makelele

Lampard
Ballack
Essien

Drogba
Shevchenko

Cole and Ferreira should give us the width we need, the midfield three can alternate in pushing forward with Essien being more the defensive midfielder helping out Maka and hopefully ‘The Shev’ and The Drog will get us the goals.

Essien should thrive on Tuesday. He scored two against Bremen when Lyon beat them 7-2 a couple of years ago.

@Blueblood
That’s the team even I would field against Werder Bremen except that I would certainly play Khalid in place of Ferreira or Ricardo (It might be Ferreira, most likely).
